A young Thai singer performs old Hollywood classics in an exclusive lounge in Santiago, Chile. Confronted by a massive popular uprising in the streets, she is forced to make a choice: escape like the elites she performs for or stay and sing a new song.
Aparecides is a social realist film about the choice we all face when confronted with injustice: look the other way or take a stand. Shot at the height of the social uprising that erupted in Chile in October 2019, it blends documentary footage with the fictional story of a character being pushed and pulled by the upheaval around her.
Through that character, the film imagines the possible—what can happen when we embrace solidarity, no matter where we’re from or what language we dream in.
